Dynamic performances by renowned classical musicians of fresh voices in chamber music.

DownEast New Music is a flexible chamber ensemble formed in 2023 to fill a necessary gap in Maine’s musical offerings: a group solely dedicated to performing contemporary chamber music based in Maine. In three seasons, DownEast New Music has performed 16 concerts, featuring music ranging from seminal pieces like John Adams’ Shaker Loops and György Kurtág’s Scenes from a Novel, to works by younger composers like Mikhail Johnson and Gabriella Smith, to world premieres by Maine composers Conrad Winslow and Danny Holt. Since its conception, we have prioritized creating innovative yet conceptually coherent programs and world-class performances. Recently, we have added education and commissioning initiatives for our current and upcoming seasons.
